Empowering Africa: More Than Doubling Adaptation Finance for a Resilient Future

Are you passionate about climate justice and want to make a difference in Africa? Do you have the skills and experience to advocate for more and better adaptation finance for the continent? If yes, you are invited to apply for the Inaugural Youth Forum on Adaptation Finance in Africa. This three-day event will unite young African leaders to discuss and demand action on this critical issue.

The Youth Forum on Adaptation Finance in Africa will take place in Yaounde, Cameroon, from 16 to 18 November 2023. It is organised by the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and the Africa Coalition for Sustainable Energy and Access (ACSEA) in partnership with the Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI), GIZ and other stakeholders. The Forum aims to unite and empower young activists to call for urgent action from the international community to prioritise and more than double funding for climate adaptation, recognising that this is a moral imperative and a strategic investment in Africa’s future resilience and prosperity. The theme of the Forum is Doubling Down for Africa: Youth, Finance and Resilience.

The Forum will offer participants the opportunity to:

  • Learn from experts and practitioners about the current state and challenges of adaptation finance in Africa and the best practices and innovative solutions to address them.
  • Engage with decision-makers and influencers from governments, multilateral institutions, civil society, private sector, and media on increasing and improving adaptation finance for Africa.
  • Network with peers and mentors from diverse backgrounds and sectors who share a common vision and commitment to climate justice.
  • Showcase their initiatives, projects, or campaigns on adaptation finance and receive feedback and support from others.
  • Develop a joint declaration and action plan on adaptation finance for Africa and present it to relevant stakeholders and platforms.

To apply for the Forum, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must demonstrate experience or interest in climate justice advocacy, especially on adaptation finance or related issues.
  • You must communicate effectively in English or French (the official languages of the Forum).
  • You must be willing and able to travel to Cameroon and participate in the entire duration of the Forum (the organisers will cover all travel and accommodation costs).
